Full disclosure: I've been a Vision Pro skeptic since day one. The original was $3,500 for a device that couldn't do much beyond impressive demos. I wrote it off as Apple's first real flop.
So when Ballar handed me the Vision Pro 2 and said "just try it," I rolled my eyes. Again.
Two hours later, I was texting him: "Okay. I get it now." I hate when he's right.
What changed (spoiler: a lot)
The Vision Pro 2 is $2,999 — still expensive, but $500 cheaper. More importantly, it's 15% lighter. That doesn't sound like much until you wear it for an hour. The original gave me a neck ache. This one... didn't.
Battery life improved from 2 hours to 3.5 hours. Still not all-day, but enough for a cross-country flight. I tested it on a flight from NYC to SF. Watched Dune, answered some emails, even tried a game. Battery died as we landed. Perfect timing actually.
The killer app I didn't expect
Everyone talks about gaming and movies. But for me? The killer app was Mac Virtual Display. I connected my MacBook and suddenly had a 4K display floating in front of me the size of my entire wall.
I coded for three hours straight. No eye strain. No neck pain. I was genuinely productive. That's never happened with any VR/AR headset before.
Vision Pro accessories worth it
Waterfield Shield Case
Expensive but worth it. Fits the Vision Pro, battery, and cables perfectly.
Check price on Amazon →I'm not buying one. But I'm also not mocking it anymore. Progress.
